The famous comic publisher is aiming to bring out an extensive digital program in the first month of 2011. In this program, single issued digital comics will be priced at $1.49.

Many comic lovers are surprised that how can Dark Horse offer comics at such low price? The company will create and manage its own digital publishing program with the name Dark Horse Bookshelf App. With this it will eliminate the need to pay third party fees on its digital editions. As a result, the readers will get comics at lower prices and the comic creators will get higher profits.

The new soon to be launched Dark Horse Bookshelf app will be made available on iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone. Readers can also buy or read Dark Horse comics on modern web browsers at the Dark Horse Digital Store. This application will provide comics at $1.49 per issue that is considered to be 50 cents lower than the industry standard.

In the beginning, this app will launch with over 150 titles including, Felicia Day’s The Guild, Gerard Way’s Umbrella Academy, Eric Powell’s The Goon, BioWare’s Mass Effect, Mike Mignola’s Hellboy and many more comics.

This issue of the “Dark Wolverine” may appear similar to “Siege” and “Wolverine Origin” to some readers. However, as they carry on with this issue, they would realize that it is far more interesting than what its frequently used title may suggest. Romulus plays the role of a villain in this Marvel adventure and seems very spotty.

Way and Liu, though manage to bring the best out of his character as they put an interesting twist on his relationship with Daken. This move gives a fair justification for Romulus’s inclination towards the Wolverine’s world who otherwise is mostly involved in a conspiracy that has led to his present situation. The issue also sees the return of Daken who had extricated himself after forming an alliance with the Dark Avengers.

The issue also throws a huge surprise by enlightening the readers with the relationship of Daken with Logan, which was least expected by anyone. The story though seems very unrealistic with the plot filled with manipulations. Logan joins hands with Daken suspecting some foul play from his son and eventually double crosses him. It really becomes difficult to understand who is manoeuvring who at some stages.

Daken seems to be at his best when he is away from the duel between Wolverine and Romulus. The final scene of the issue is also quite intriguing. Stephen Segovia has done a good job with the cover of the issue which seems very attractive. Although the story seems to be doing quite well, the real challenge would come when the book would have to strike out on its own.

The Dark X-Men: The Beginning, in its three series will let you know how each and every member in Norman Osborn’s X-Men team became members of his group. You know before hand that the characters or members are by any hook or crook going to join the group which kills the excitement or suspense of the story. By now most of you must have already gone through two issues and six stories. But as the issues are increasing, it is getting boring and boring. Every time you see the same discussions and approaches of Osborn.

In the first story you see Osborn talking to Cloak and Dagger where he gives reasons as to why two non-mutants can be X-Men and the reasons make some sense. The other two stories show you the Weapon Omega and Daken, the Dark Wolverine. But there reasons of joining the group fails to make any sense. It is also shown how Weapon Omega was first featured in “New Avengers” and shows us the reasons of his joining the group. Here you can see the beautiful art done by Michel Lacombe. Similarly the story of Daken was not up to the mark. All it showed was how similar he was to his father. What cannot be understood is why he has been featured in the both Dark Avengers and Dark X-Men.

The conclusion is that the Dark X-Men: The Beginning fails to give any kind of reasoning. None of the stories give you enough proof for their joining the group.

The book was originated in France but initial several issues have been translated and released in English. The characters of this book are mostly animals or some strange creatures. The title role dungeon is an organization run by a chicken where the heroes come for adventure and money and die invariably. The main character Herbert the duck is a hilarious one and would tempt you to read more and more. So in all the book is a good entertaining one.
