Jeff Lemire’s did a decent work in terms of the story, but in this issue of Superboy, he tried to put too much of an effort to create the world of Smallville around the lead character. The issue mixes portions of Superboy’s worlds, which brings the Teen Titans to Smallville. Though it looks to be a lot of drama, however, it is quite charming as a tribute to the Silver Age.

The art by Pier Gallo is also not up to the mark for the issue. In fact, since the beginning of this series, the art of Gallo has been on and off as far as its creativity is concerned. In the first issue, it was too good, whereas the next issue was quite unpleasing.

Though Gallo has a history of framing and telling story interestingly, but being a story revolving around a Superboy, the style and dressing etc. are quite unlikely, which he couldn’t much match up to. Especially, the s-shield on Superboy’s shirt is quite confusing. In addition, the color scheme of skin tones of the characters by Jamie Grant makes things further complicated. The story doesn’t interest much to keep you glued to.

However, the interesting part is that this issue is a break from the crazy calamity of the past four issues that has fallen upon Smallville. Many subjects in this story are expected to bloom in the next issues of Superboy and the writer even suggested some upcoming troubles in the next issue.

The Action Comics is back with a new story in its latest volume with some new twists and turns. In this issue, DC Comics brings together Secret Six with Action Comics and Paul Cornell opens the story in two-parts. This is, may be the first time, that a all villain-led comics is packed in one issue.

Since, Lex Luthor’s contribution was there in creating the secret six team in the earlier issue so it was not very difficult to get the connection. The first part of the story in this series involves super six team in action with Vandal Savage in a fight, which is quite interesting and engaging. The sequence involves a lot of minute details along with a lot of fun and excitement.

Again, with this issue, the closing of the The Black Ring is also approaching. Now there are mere 3 installments remain for the series to end. Moreover, you can see the coming back of few previous enemies in this issue and a conflict between Luthor’s Lois-bot and an previous rival. Overall, it a very interesting and entertaining to see most of villains from the last seven issues coming together and to know their additional roles.

Pete Woods has done a great job along with his team as far as art is concerned. Colors by Brad Anderson and team is also very interesting and catchy. The cover done by David Finch is also worth appreciation. On the whole, you would definitely miss something if you miss the issue of Action Comics vol. 896.

The magic created by Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul in their respective fields has shown its result in the latest issue of the series as always. Moreover, the contributions from Brian Buccellato, Brian Reber, Steve Wands, and Sal Cipriano are also worth mentioning.

One disappointing thing for the followers of the series is that Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul are heading towards handling “The Flash” and would leave Adventure Comics in a few months. On the other hand Paul Levitz is expected to take charge of “Adventure Comics” and would give his best to retain, the exciting times for the reader ahead. Nevertheless, with so many untold stories being planned ahead, it would be difficult for the readers not to miss the work done by the duo so far.

In this issue, the Adventure Comics has brought Superboy in the living world again. Moreover, the series also sees the coming together of Superboy and Robin without much of a melo-drama.

The interesting thing about John’s story is that it is mixes humor with drama. Besides, the use of ink by Manapul and Buccellato’s use of colors gives great looks of watercolor painting.

Now it is to be seen as to how Levitz deals with the plot and the story in the coming issues. Lets just hope that Levitz and company create the same magic as created by the this creative team so far.

Web comics strips are getting popular these days. One of the most interesting fact about the web comics is that they are published without much scrutiny. The web comics has helped people relax by reading these witty and funny strips even during work. Though, the list of such comics is quite long, let us discuss the top 5 of such web comics today.

One of the most liked and read comics in the web is the ‘Garfiled Minus Garfield’ series. Interestingly, this series doesn’t have Garfield, the cat, but has its owner as the main character. Created by Dan Walsh of Ireland, Jon Arbuckle is of a young man who is lonely and talks to his own self while making funny facial expressions.

‘Tootpaste For Dinner’ is another such comics strip that portrays hand drawn characters covering many weird and peculiar issues. This series deals in sarcastic and humor. Moreover, it deals with individual topic each time.

‘Indexed’ is another all time favorite of all. This unique web comic portrays humorous and bizarre topics with graphs, charts and diagram that really make sense and are interesting.

‘User Friendly’ is again a comic strip that focuses on Columbia Internet, an imaginary internet service provider and the day-to-day things in life of the employees of this company. Created by J.D. Frazer, the humor here deals with technology related issues.

The last in our list today is the ‘PHD’ or ‘Piled Higher and Deeper’. This strip mainly talks about graduate students. Created by Jorge Cham, this comics portrays the hazards of student life and the problems they suffer in light humor.

The famous comic publisher is aiming to bring out an extensive digital program in the first month of 2011. In this program, single issued digital comics will be priced at $1.49.

Many comic lovers are surprised that how can Dark Horse offer comics at such low price? The company will create and manage its own digital publishing program with the name Dark Horse Bookshelf App. With this it will eliminate the need to pay third party fees on its digital editions. As a result, the readers will get comics at lower prices and the comic creators will get higher profits.

The new soon to be launched Dark Horse Bookshelf app will be made available on iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone. Readers can also buy or read Dark Horse comics on modern web browsers at the Dark Horse Digital Store. This application will provide comics at $1.49 per issue that is considered to be 50 cents lower than the industry standard.

In the beginning, this app will launch with over 150 titles including, Felicia Day’s The Guild, Gerard Way’s Umbrella Academy, Eric Powell’s The Goon, BioWare’s Mass Effect, Mike Mignola’s Hellboy and many more comics.

Marvel has always been a source of great enjoyment for the comic book lovers who find great pleasure in reading comic book stories. The only complain they could come up with was the price of the Marvel comic books and it seems that Marvel has decided to set the record straight. Marvel Comics is indeed making an effort to make their comics more affordable for its readers and has announced some of its Greatest Comics imprint.

The great news is that some of the most popular series of Marvel with new printings would now be available to the readers and that too for just $1. Isn’t that exciting? Marvel expects to set the retailer’s shelves on fire with titles like Wolverine #66, New Avengers #1, Hulk #1 and Civil War #1; all of which are expected to be available to the readers in April this year.

He also said that the reduction in the price of the comic books would ensure that more and more fans would now be able to discover the new series and this would also give the retailers a chance to pile up their stocks for a long period.

He contradicts the popular notion that Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are the proper epics which contain all the knowledge about the great Trojan War and its story of destruction. He has taken into account several other sources to combine them into one storyline.

Unlike the motion picture Troy (2004), Roy Thomas’s adaptation is much closer to the original epics in the sense that he does not leave out the portrayal and the activities of the mythological Greek gods. He does not fail to mention the jealousies and squabbles of Greek gods and goddesses who had a great influence on the war.

Thomas’s epic tells the tale of the dispute between Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. The dispute is over the fact as to who is the most justifiable choice for the Golden Apple. It then continues with the story of Paris who runs away with Helen which results in the Trojan War.

Roy Thomas has used the Epic Cycle as his guide when narrating the story; however, it lacks an artistic interpretation and is very straightforward. The first issue of the mini series is otherwise excellent. The plot is brilliantly detailed and all the characters are correctly named. The issues 2 to 5 can also be summed up as idealized just like the first issue. The issue covers the events that preceded and succeeded and also the events during the war. This work by Roy Thomas is definitely going to stand its own test of time.
