1299817679_cvr Jeff Lemire’s did a decent work in terms of the story, but in this issue of Superboy, he tried to put too much of an effort to create the world of Smallville around the lead character. The issue mixes portions of Superboy’s worlds, which brings the Teen Titans to Smallville. Though it looks to be a lot of drama, however, it is quite charming as a tribute to the Silver Age.

The art by Pier Gallo is also not up to the mark for the issue. In fact, since the beginning of this series, the art of Gallo has been on and off as far as its creativity is concerned. In the first issue, it was too good, whereas the next issue was quite unpleasing.

1255576158_cvr The third issue of the Adventure comics’ Superboy series is out with more exciting and adventurous stories being unfolded. The magic created by Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul in their respective fields has shown its result in the latest issue of the series as always. Moreover, the contributions from Brian Buccellato, Brian Reber, Steve Wands, and Sal Cipriano are also worth mentioning.

One disappointing thing for the followers of the series is that Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul are heading towards handling “The Flash” and would leave Adventure Comics in a few months. On the other hand Paul Levitz is expected to take charge of “Adventure Comics” and would give his best to retain, the exciting times for the reader ahead. Nevertheless, with so many untold stories being planned ahead, it would be difficult for the readers not to miss the work done by the duo so far.

The Trojan War Series

TROJAN001_COV Roy Thomas, the renowned comic book writer has adapted many great pieces of literature for Marvel into graphic novel. He contradicts the popular notion that Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are the proper epics which contain all the knowledge about the great Trojan War and its story of destruction. He has taken into account several other sources to combine them into one storyline.

Unlike the motion picture Troy (2004), Roy Thomas’s adaptation is much closer to the original epics in the sense that he does not leave out the portrayal and the activities of the mythological Greek gods. He does not fail to mention the jealousies and squabbles of Greek gods and goddesses who had a great influence on the war.

Thomas’s epic tells the tale of the dispute between Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. The dispute is over the fact as to who is the most justifiable choice for the Golden Apple. It then continues with the story of Paris who runs away with Helen which results in the Trojan War.

Roy Thomas has used the Epic Cycle as his guide when narrating the story; however, it lacks an artistic interpretation and is very straightforward. The first issue of the mini series is otherwise excellent. The plot is brilliantly detailed and all the characters are correctly named. The issues 2 to 5 can also be summed up as idealized just like the first issue. The issue covers the events that preceded and succeeded and also the events during the war. This work by Roy Thomas is definitely going to stand its own test of time.

Oddly enough, I thought Roy Thomas was dead. The writing and artwork for this series is excellent. I loved the 5 issues -- and thought that the cover for #3 was among the year's best comic covers. But it's unlikely this series will stand the test of time. If it
