The story is reasonably decent and the anguish portrayed is good to read. It was, in fact, a pleasure to read the torment editions.

The art by Dustin Nguyen is remarkable as always. The super hero who actually seems to be in torment in the story is Superman. On the other hand, Batman is more into action than anything else.

Alan Burnett did a good job in providing mystery to the story. Moreover, the dialogues also made the plot quite fair and interesting.

The storyline in the TBP issue was wrapped up, however, it succeeds in leaving a tease like the original story for the next issue, which was called ‘Death of the New Gods’.

Coming from the house of DC comics, the issues were originally published in Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec 2007, and Jan 2008.

Amongst some of the spoilers in the story is the portrayal of putting Bruce through Torment. Alan Burnett version was rather different from one of the earlier versions of Grant Morrsion.

The TPB was released in Feb 201. So if you still haven’t got a copy for yourself, get it soon.

These are some of the popular stories published long back, the detective 821 and the Legends of the Dark Knight 86 – 88. These two stories have peculiar feel of detective and suspense coming from the popular and one of the best comic book artist, J. H. Williams III.

He is the artist that gave the best depiction to some of the best writers and their stories by artistically telling the story. He is the master of his subject and knows where to place what to bring out the best in the stories.

These are a few very popular stories, which you must read and store. In fact, if you see the publication dates of the two stories, you will find a gap of over 10 years between the two. And there is also a marked change in the style and presentation of Williams’ approach.

William was remarkable in his early works and you can experience that in the 1996 edition. If you compare the works together, you will see how much flair the artists has added to his artistry by 2006.

The Conspiracy: Legends of the Dark Knight 86-88 was originally published way back in 1996 and was written by Doug Moench, whereas The Beautiful People: Detective 821 was written by Paul Dini and published in 2006. However, J.H. Williams III’s artistry remains same in both the books.

When Grant Morrison recently published the twin issue of Batman (flash back), I felt this is the end of Batman at the hands of the Darkseid. The latest issue of Batman/Darkseid takes us right back to the period where Morrison begins the end of Batman.

Judd Winick has done a pretty good job with this story although he had a lot of handicaps to deal with. The topic is such that, no matter how hard one tries, it is difficult to stop it from being predictable. We already know what course it would take at the end as Dick Grayson takes up the role of Batman.

The only saving grave of this issue is that Winick ensures that the entire book is not based on a single idea. The latter half of the book delves more on the grief of Superman over the demise of his friend.

This book has some really high points but there are times when the consistency is missing and you are left exasperating. Another let down is the scenes of Superman with Deanna Troi, which is so much of a resemblance of the DC universe.

Although this issue has a few flaws, if you manage to forget the past issues it is really a good read. The artwork is very good and the story although a bit predictable is quite good.

Batman Confidential is quite similar to Spider Man-Fever, where a distinctive artist does a distinctive take on two corporate characters. Sam Kieth’s portrayal of Batman and Gordon is quite interesting and they barely look or act like the characters that we have seen in other issues. But the fact that it isn’t a continuity series, it doesn’t really matter if the characters are different as this a unique portrayal of Gotham city by Sam Keith.

Apart from the characters, even the overall story is also quite different from the other issues as there is a lot of introspection in the story. The most distinctive thing about this book is that there is no real bad guy in the story and the storyline focuses more on Batman trying to protect a young woman, wherein he tries to make a connection in a messy world.

Sam Kieth not only writes this one but also draws it and even colors in bits and he does manage to bring out the turmoil that Batman goes through while trying to protect the young woman. As we move forward reading, the one thing that immediately catches our attention is that the artwork shows a lot of fluctuation as it sways from finely painted images to sketch work to crayon paint and this does manage to give the story the emotional impact. I think it was important that Ben resorted to this style as the storyline needed that extra bit of emotional touch to it. The story is closer to reality and this makes it a very good read, a refreshing change from the typical Batman stories.

But, in spite of these off the scene issues the latest from the Batman series is fairly entertaining. Dini, Fridolfs and Nguyen succeed in giving us a great experience, thanks largely to Carpenter. The carpenter portrays a villain and is perfect for exploration and that is what they have given as she gets solo and inks a deal with a new client.

The interesting thing about this issue is that the narration by the carpenter is both the strength as well as the weakness of the book. She comes across as a character that has a very funny perspective on things and it makes it a fascinating read. The way she reasons her quitting the Wonderland Gang is absolute comic and her indecisiveness provides a much needed edginess to the storyline.

The real lows in this issue are the dialogues of Fridolfs and Nguyen. Their dialogues are a bit too fancy for a book that is dark and full of bad guys. However, this drawback is very well covered by the fact the plot is very good and even with some lackluster dialogues it still remains a very good read.

Even though the carpenter portrays a negative character she looks quite cute. This is definitely a very interesting and entertaining book. The characters look perfect and the storyline is very strong. The cover of the book is an absolute beauty and does justice to the book.

This issue of the Batman series has the feel of the old fashioned superhero stories. It is full of thrills and excitement with clues that threaten to unmask the mysterious villain. The story is filled with right amount of humor and you would certainly enjoy reading it.

Tony Daniel keeps the story rolling along by mixing the past and the present beautifully. This is observed in the opening page of the story which has seagulls squawking on the shore with Batman lying face down and then suddenly the story goes back to narrate the incidents of the past that has led to the present predicament of Batman.

Tony though fails to do justice with Dick Grayson when you actually see Batman is in action. However, he has done a great job in the characterization of Dick and Damian. His artwork also seems to the best out of all the Batman stories that he has drawn over the years. His work has the texture that was lacking in the earlier issues and looks more concrete. This has been assisted wonderfully by Sandu Florea and Norm Rapmund who have made it even more stylish.

The artwork has given depth to the characters and has helped in making the story more effective. The story concludes with a clue to the unmasked villain which lets Dick know the identity of the Black Mask. Overall, it is not merely an attempt at narration as the story is full of some real action and at $2.99 certainly makes great reading.

This issue of the Batman would probably see Judd Winick conclude his run as a writer as he is going to be replaced by Tony Daniel who will replace him as the writer from the next issue. Winick’s brought back Jason Todd and although he had a brief run to the title, he made it very clear how good he is at writing Dick Grayson. Winick depicted Grayson-as-Batman to be a person with a mix of confidence with a bit of wonder.

Grayson has done everything to prove his capability as Nightwing, the superhero in the earlier issues of the story. Winick has portrayed Grayson as someone who has real powers but is still getting used to them and it was certainly a smart move from the writer. This move seemed to be the best part of the stories that followed Batman R.I.P. and it is indeed very unfortunate that the character which looked set for a long stint was ended abruptly.

Overall, the plot seems to be missing something interesting and although from the characterization point of view is wonderful to see the dual between Batman and Clayface. The character of the Penguin was typically very admiring and the writer must be credited for using the various abilities of the DC Universe in such a wonderful way.

The artwork of Mark Bagley seems to be done in haste with the drawings having rough and scratchy edges. Although, it is sad to see Winick calling it a day when the story was shaping up beautifully, the comic lovers can expect some real excitement when Tony Daniel steps into the writer’s shoes.

The Blackest Night: Batman Vol.2 lives up to the reputation of the entertaining miniseries written by the talented Peter Tomasi. The second issue of the series uses the same formula of “superheroes vs. zombie” which was present in the debut edition.

The comic book has all the action ingredients from Commissioner Gordon Shooting off the head of a zombie to Batman and Robin taking blowtorches to the army of their undead rouges. Tomasi has done a wonderful job with the pattern and development of the plot which would not have been possible with any other writer. However, the major drawback of the story is predictability. Tomasi has created a fun environment in the book by combining Batsman’s world with those of the zombies. This makes the readers overlook the predictability of the story.

The other drawback of the story is the artwork. Ardian Syaf has not been able to differentiate between the different Black Lantern characters. This has mainly to do with the fact that the Batman Rouges are all relatively vague. You can also hold Syaf responsible for it because he has played up with the traits of the zombie’s characters to the extent where it gets difficult to find out the person underneath. His artwork also lacks consistency through most of the story. His storytelling also does not meet the standard.

However, the Batman and Robin’s response to the crisis makes up for all the shortcomings of the story and will surely provide a pleasurable experience for the readers.

Although the issues lacks continuity but the way Dick Grayson has been handled really stands out in this issue.

The issue starts with a great flashback. Robin sets up a trap for Batman and Alfred in the batcave and manages to surprise them. The entire scene is depicted beautifully and gives us the taste of their timeless duo. Coming back to the present time, Alfred is seen mourning the loss of Bruce. Till this time it appears that Dick is still not prepared to take up the duties of being Batman. The cape and cowl which belong to Bruce are returned by wonder Woman and superman it was what Bruce wore at the time he died. The issue ends up with Damian being accepted by Alfred and Dick realizing that Batman has to change and continue. It also describes the reason which makes Dick take up the responsibility of Batman.

There are some holes in the issue though as Tim does not get a look in this issue and also there is no reaction from anyone when Damian appears as Robin. Continuity is another area of concern. The artwork is overall dark and serious as the issue involves a lot of crying and mourning. However the issue exceeds the expectations of the readers. The major highlight of this issue is the interaction between Batman and Robin in the opening flashback and priced at $4 it makes a good reading.
