Batman Vol690

This issue of the Batman would probably see Judd Winick conclude his run as a writer as he is going to be replaced by Tony Daniel who will replace him as the writer from the next issue. Winick’s brought back Jason Todd and although he had a brief run to the title, he made it very clear how good he is at writing Dick Grayson. Winick depicted Grayson-as-Batman to be a person with a mix of confidence with a bit of wonder.

S.W.O.R.D. Vol. 1

The story of the debut issue of the S.W.O.R.D. is quite different from what its cover has to suggest. Look at the cover. Don’t you get a feeling that that it would be a very serious super agent comic based in space? Well! Guys! This is actually closer to comic books like “She-Hulk” and “Secret Warriors”. Kieron Gillen has done a fabulous job with the humor of the story which appears to be in sync with the drama of the story. However, the work of the artist Steven Sanders in the issue is far from being satisfactory.

Star Trek

Fool’s Gold Vol.1 takes place between the third and fourth season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and being the first act of television episode sets up the plot in a great way without delivering much interest on its own. It creates an intriguing mystery which explains the state of the incoming and outgoing traffic to DS9. Quark who seems to hold the answers does not provide much of a clue. The issue starts in a way that would throw some light on the background of Deep Space 9 for new readers and focuses on two suspicious characters who arrive at the station for unspecified reason.

Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 615

The Amazing Spider Man has had an interesting and very artistic line up when you talk about the last two months. The succeeding act of “The Gauntlet” uber plot has Spider Man facing the Sandman after he dispatched Electro in the previous issue. Fred Van Lente has used the character of Sandman in a very different way than the character of Electro used by Mark Waid. He has combined different aspects to the story and given it a beautiful turn which seems just about perfect.

To retain the popularity and the interest of the viewers, when the action serial Buffy the Vampire Slayer was off air, Joss Whedon had used the comic books as a medium to continue the popular franchise. He has once again opted for the same technique for one of his popular blogs called Dr. Horrible Sing-Along that became quite popular last year. The funny star cast of Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion was so wonderful and entertaining that people were left begging for more.

Green Lantern Vol48

This issue of Green Lantern is a departure from the action of “Blackest Night” that had been running on for months and also sees the return of the characters into main action. Geoff Johns has done a truly remarkable job in this issue and has represented the War of Lights perfectly. The issue gives a great peak inside the world of DC and is paced beautifully for the casts that can be led directly into Blackest Night #5.

Deadpool Team-up Vol 899

Deadpool Team-up Volume 899, published by Marvel comics has Deadpool and Hercules teaming up against Arcade and an unknown villain. Fred Van Lente’s story though feels a little out of sorts. Unlike his work like “Incredible Hercules”, this issue is a bit of a dampener when it comes to humor. Hercules also seems to fit best with characters like Amadeus Cho who are straight and allow him to be the crazy one around. His chemistry with Deadpool in no way matches the magic that he creates with Amadeus Cho in “Incredible Hercules”.

X-Men Legacy Vol 229

This issue of the X-Men: Legacy sees Mike Carey experiment with his story and it must be mentioned that he is doing a very fine job with it. The story seems to be growing with each new issue every month. Carey has managed to narrate the story beautifully with his wide range of characters and situations. Presently, the story has Rogue gearing up against Emplate but Carey has also got Bling who played the character of the trainee in X-Men.

The Trojan War Series
by Mighty Hal
Oddly enough, I thought Roy Thomas was dead. The writing and artwork for this series is excellent. I loved the 5 issues -- and thought that the cover for #3 was among the year's best comic covers. But it's unlikely this series will stand the test of time. If it
