Star Wars Adventures

This issue of the Star War Adventure describes the events which took place a year prior to “The Empire Strikes Back”. The issue is all about Princess Leia and Han Solo who are out on an adventure trip trying to establish a connection with the Rebel Alliance. Leia and Han are out on a secret mission to find out the details of the shipping lanes which is being used by the Imperials which results in the Imperials chasing them down. The story of this issue revolves around this plot.

Jeremy Barlow must be appreciated for the fact that he makes the readers feel this story like one of those from Star Wars. However, it would have been quite different, had it been just Leia in this issue. The other disappointing thing about this issue is the absence of Ord Mantell. The artwork in this issue is done by Soriano, which is also very commendable. It has got a more animated touch to it.

The characters at times, have a resemblance to the Hollywood actors Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher but Soriano has tempered them beautifully to make them look like comic book images that suit the comic book readership. Soriano has not used the backgrounds in the issue to a good effect, although the one used in millennium falcon stands out from the rest. The backgrounds used in the issue are more or less flat color fields which needs a lot to be desired in terms of improvement.

Though, the backgrounds fail to create a Star War like atmosphere, they do add to drama in the action panel. Overall, the dark Horse has done a great job and is set to woo the new fan base.

Oddly enough, I thought Roy Thomas was dead. The writing and artwork for this series is excellent. I loved the 5 issues -- and thought that the cover for #3 was among the year's best comic covers. But it's unlikely this series will stand the test of time. If it
