The four issue series of ‘Ultimate Mystery’ would take the story forward as continued in the “Ultimate Enemy”. Like the earlier series, this is going to be the very entertaining and exciting journey to start soon this summer.

Moreover, the fourth and the final issue of the ‘Ultimate Enemy’ series has arrived in the market, and hopes to solve few unsolved mysteries. Writer Brian Michael Bendis must be given full credit for his story, whereas Rafa Sandoval’s art is also nowhere behind. Both of them have really been able to create the perfect magic so far.

The additional characters that have been included in the final issue of the ‘Ultimate Enemy’ are the character of Spider-Woman, Iceman, Invisible Woman and the Human Torch amongst others.

On the other hand, in the sequel to ‘Ultimate Enemy’, we will see that the potential danger level would rise exponentially along with some changes in the cast. “Ultimate Mystery” series will see old threats attacking again in an exciting storyline.

Though there are not too many details about the yet to come sequel is out in the open, still the title of the series is quite suggestive of the story and mystery that it could include. Speculations are high, while it is still to see what finally turns up in the up-coming sequel.

I have to confess that I have enjoyed the previous comics from Nick Spencer, but I doubted on the effect of the first volume of his latest book “Morning Glories”. What I felt about this book was that it possessed an air of been there, done all element to it.

I am also a very big fan of The Intimates and I wondered if I needed to read another one of those prep school comic, but just because it touched upon a subject that has already been used so many times doesn’t mean that it cannot have its own soul, its own representation of a typical subject. Morning Glories is a highly engaging book that manages to keep the fun intact throughout the read. It is primarily a fun read that explores the lives of the new students of the Morning Glory Academy and add to it some serious mystery makes it worth a read.

It is almost a perfect start to the book as it kicks off with an escape attempt at the school. There is no explanation as to what ignited these students to blow off a part of the academy for their escape. This is where Spencer unveils the core of the story. Morning Glory Academy is not what it seems to be. The story takes an interesting twist when six new students join the academy and they are absolutely clueless about what’s going on around them.

A strong story line complimented by some outstanding artwork makes this issue a very good read. Spencer has done exceedingly well to create something new and fresh out of a used platform.

But to the surprise of many, Wildstrom announced that it will do a cross over series with IDW’s popular series 30 Days of Night. Although, initially it came to me as a bit of a surprise but after I gave it some thought it seemed a good fit.

You shouldn’t expect a lot from this book as nothing much happens. It is again the same where a few dead bodies turn up in suspicious manner and Scully and Mulder are entrusted with the job of finding the truth behind it. The narrative of the story is by a snowplow driver who finds a pile ruined vehicles accompanied by a heap of head less dead bodies and the heads stuck on the top of a giant pole.

There is very little time spent on the prologue as it quickly moves on to story. It leaves with a feeling that you needed a bit more time with the introduction of the characters as you move to the story. The introduction also adds another twist when another FBI pair comes into the scene and a conflict arises between the two pairs. It does add that extra bit of tension to the story.

The problem with this issue is that it has far too many resemblances to the original books. Besides, for those who have read those books they might feel a little disappointed.

Comics can at times be a nuisance, yet at the same time there are comics which are an absolute delight to read and off course review. With comics you never know when you are handed with a gem and the best part is I often come across something which is a sheer delight to read. So, when I came across the first volume of the latest “The Stuff of Legend”, I was not just taken aback by the absolute beauty of the comic, I was completely awestruck by the book!

It isn’t that this issue has something totally unique in terms of story and presentation but there is something about this book that makes even the regular things so new and unique. This issue has all the characters that we have witnessed so far. From the evil Percy to the cunning Boogeyman that dwells in the dark it’s all the same. It is all about the presentation that makes the difference to this issue.

This book is out an out a horror story, but that is where the beauty lies. Starting from the artwork to the story it is a book that will give you chills to your bones. The design resembles a house of some hideous neighbor, who always gave you an air of mystery. It is incredible how modern technique has been used to give the book a look of weariness and scare, which for many may come across as carelessness. It is an absolute treasure in terms of story and the artwork is just perfect for a horror story.

My counterparts in reviewing seem to be very impressed with this series. Both the first and the second issue were very highly rated by reviewers. So, here I am all set to chime this latest issue, which could prove to be a turning point in the stories of Pearl as well as Skinner Sweet.

Pearl believes in her gut feelings but also has the intelligence to handle her urges with utmost care and this combination makes her a real force. This issue seems to have no boundaries whatsoever and Snyder manages to surprise and shock.

Sweet’s story in this issue focuses primarily on his reawakening. Stephen King’s story of Skinner discovering himself is full of grudges and resentment. King projects Sweet as monster of a person and it is fairly understandable too as in Will Bunting’s words “Monsters sell”.

When you read the book you have a feeling that the latter half of it is less than polished and hasn’t been given the same importance as the first half. The colors seem to be more painterly and it feels like you are seeing through a glass covered with fog or perhaps old and hazy memories being stringed together.

The American Vampire has definitely got everything to make it a great success and Mr. King is definitely going to rule this world. However, one must give due credit to the entire team that has made this possible. The combined effort of each member reflects in the creation and speaks volumes about their abilities. This is undoubtedly a great piece of imagination.

For those who have missed its earlier issue, there is a great chance for them to get their hands on the reprint which was recently released by Vertigo. The Deluxe Edition is the collection of starting 10 issues of the series. Fables which have been the most acclaimed series of the writer Bill Willingham is one of his favorite creations. It is a great mix of a tale of fairy adventure, fantasy, politics and satire.

The success of the book is evident in the initial pages of the book which show the writer’s love for the characters. He manages to make the age-old creations his own by his excellent work. Fables have characters like Snow White, Cinderella and the Big Bad Wolf living among the humans in modern New York City where they manage to establish a secret town for themselves.

This Deluxe Edition collection introduce many key players to the readers. The hierarchy and the relationship of these characters within the Fable community are then established. The work of Willingham sure need to be appreciated for the way he has reinterpreted the various characters and placed them perfectly in the modern society.

The overall story of the collection can be termed as a murder mystery and creates a great sense of anticipation for the readers for the remaining series. The next hardcover though would be available after a year as promised by Willingham which may seriously test the patience of the readers.

The fourth issue of “The Unknown: The Devil Made Flesh” marked the end of the second mini-series of “The Unknown”. Although the issue is entertaining, it fails to match the earlier issues of the series. The revelation that Scott Tilton had been the murderer of the single soul solved the mystery of the killer in Colorado in the issue which also sees Catherine, the world renowned detective being trapped in the caves. The issue explains the reason for Tilton’s fixation with the caves and how he slewed his companions.

The issue also has a great connection with the first issue of the series and reveals the larger obsession of Catherine. The struggle that follows sees the murderous duo take on Catherine and it has been portrayed wonderfully through the art of Oostervee. He also has a commendable job in portraying the caves as well and gives the readers a claustrophobic feel. Oostervee has also shown the conflict in a beautiful manner and his art seems to jump out of the page. The former assistant of Catherine being in a child’s body gives Oostervee to showcase his class.

The conclusion reminds reader of the first issue and seems rather inconclusive. It leaves the readers with many unanswered questions and stresses too much Catherine’s obsession. He also explains why Catherine has managed to live past the time that she was supposed to. Although, the issue was able to create much expectation among the readers, it had a very weak conclusion because of the writer’s desire to finish the ongoing series and start a new one.

Fool’s Gold Vol.1 takes place between the third and fourth season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and being the first act of television episode sets up the plot in a great way without delivering much interest on its own. It creates an intriguing mystery which explains the state of the incoming and outgoing traffic to DS9. Quark who seems to hold the answers does not provide much of a clue. The issue starts in a way that would throw some light on the background of Deep Space 9 for new readers and focuses on two suspicious characters who arrive at the station for unspecified reason.

The opening page of the issue gives readers the feel of a movie which has just began. There are many characters who pass by quickly and readers are allowed to hear a part of their conversations. It also has a shady alien narrating the history of D9 to others. The story then moves on to the point where Captain Sisko is shown feeling apprehensive about the state of things after the sabotage attempt by changeling which happened in the finale of season three. This has Major Kira bringing in to notice the fact that a large number of people have come to the station and have not left.

Sisko arrives at the conclusion that the fact because of which people are not afraid is what is making them stay back. But a visit to Odo reveals that the visitors are actually on the look out of something and in that process they are tearing the station apart. The drawing of Fabio Mantovani has room for improvement and overall the issue does not set a very high standard.
