Dark Horse Comics is back with the first volume of its new series, Star Wars: Darth Vader and the lost command. Written by Haden Blackman with Rick Leonardi and Daniel Green’s art, the story is about an exciting mission of Darth Vader. The book is timed nineteen years early to the Yavin battle and opens with number of character spaces. The task that Vader has to do this time is to find Grand Moff Tarkin’s son who is lost on his own mission. The strong opening of the story starts with an emotionally ripped Darth Vader. This part nicely depicts that Vader still has an emotional being underneath all his sinister black

Star Wars Blood Ties. Ever since Boba Fett debuted with the epic “Star Wars-Holiday Special”, he has been a favorite amongst comic lovers. So, when he came with his latest issue of the Star Wars, expectations were very high.  But to his credit he has managed to come up with another winner. Abe Sapien Abyssal Plain Vol. 2

The first issue of this series and this recent issue are interesting. Both the issues are thoughtful and slow in terms of storytelling; however, there is a marked difference in terms of writing as this issue lays more emphasis on writing than art. The first issue was light and hence this issue has been created in a way to offer more drama and plots.

Hellcyon Vol1

Hellcyon is the latest offering of Lucas Marangon and at the first glance it definitely looks impressive. However, a more detailed and closer inspection tells a different story altogether. It isn’t as neat as it seemed when you just skim across it.

Marangon definitely has potential and does show some flashes of brilliance. It seems he draws inspiration from several quarters and his style reminds of Otomo’s “Akira” and at the same time it also seems to be influenced by the early school of Ladronn.

The matchup of Aliens vs. Predator was first made available by Dark Horse comics more than two decades ago. It has since been remembered a couple of times and you may also have come across some movies made on this concept. With the possibility of a movie looming large, Dark Horse has decided to relive the clash between these gigantic species. The book in spite of the combined genius of Rick Leonardi and Randy Stradely fails to induce any sort of excitement to the readers.

Beasts of Burden

Dark Horse comics have come up with an adventurous new series called the Beasts of Burden. The first issue has been written by Evan Dorkin and the art in the issue is a work of Jill Thompson. Although the issue gives an excitement to the readers, it is not a read for all ages. It becomes difficult at times to determine who the characters really are as they disappear even fast than they appear. There is no real logic behind their portrayal and the prime of example of this being the Character of the Shaggy sheepdog. The confusion of the readers at the appearance of this character is even evident in the faces of the other characters of this issue.

Star Wars Adventures

This issue of the Star War Adventure describes the events which took place a year prior to “The Empire Strikes Back”. The issue is all about Princess Leia and Han Solo who are out on an adventure trip trying to establish a connection with the Rebel Alliance. Leia and Han are out on a secret mission to find out the details of the shipping lanes which is being used by the Imperials which results in the Imperials chasing them down. The story of this issue revolves around this plot.

Jeremy Barlow must be appreciated for the fact that he makes the readers feel this story like one of those from Star Wars. However, it would have been quite different, had it been just Leia in this issue. The other disappointing thing about this issue is the absence of Ord Mantell. The artwork in this issue is done by Soriano, which is also very commendable. It has got a more animated touch to it.

The Star War Legacy vol.36 is all about space battles and has no Sith, Jedi or pirates to mention. It is mostly about the political and military resistance among the many factions of fleets. Some of the plot points of this issue have been taken from the earlier issues and does not lead us to anything new.

In this issue, Admiral Stazi who leads the new alliance along with former emperor Fel tries to capture some of the ships which belong to the Sith empire. The trouble starts when Admiral Fenel who is sent by emperor Fel starts to control the Sith’s Empire. This eventually results in a split between Stazi and Fenel.

Oddly enough, I thought Roy Thomas was dead. The writing and artwork for this series is excellent. I loved the 5 issues -- and thought that the cover for #3 was among the year's best comic covers. But it's unlikely this series will stand the test of time. If it
