After the last month attempt by regular writer Jeff Lemire and guest artist Marco Rudy, which seemed little off track, this time the team is back in action and in good form as well. In fact, it’s nice to see the pair show their actual capability despite restrictions of someone else’s story.

In this issue writer Jeff Lemire takes Superboy to space along with the new emerging character Psionic Lad. The story revolves around the investigation of the spaceship and the finding there on.

The script is smartly written. And despite the fact that all the characters are not included in the issue, the story turned out well.

The story as always is of course of superhero but the treatment given by Lemire is undoubtedly unique and interesting. Though, few things in the story remain predictable, however, that didn’t make any difference to the story and its excitement.

Marco Rudy, and Daniel HDR’s art serves well to add beauty to the story and looking much better this time. As far as choice of designs and groovy backgrounds etc. are concerned, Rudy’s great. Overall, Superboy is back with its old standards, and has done a good job.

The magic created by Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul in their respective fields has shown its result in the latest issue of the series as always. Moreover, the contributions from Brian Buccellato, Brian Reber, Steve Wands, and Sal Cipriano are also worth mentioning.

One disappointing thing for the followers of the series is that Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul are heading towards handling “The Flash” and would leave Adventure Comics in a few months. On the other hand Paul Levitz is expected to take charge of “Adventure Comics” and would give his best to retain, the exciting times for the reader ahead. Nevertheless, with so many untold stories being planned ahead, it would be difficult for the readers not to miss the work done by the duo so far.

In this issue, the Adventure Comics has brought Superboy in the living world again. Moreover, the series also sees the coming together of Superboy and Robin without much of a melo-drama.

The interesting thing about John’s story is that it is mixes humor with drama. Besides, the use of ink by Manapul and Buccellato’s use of colors gives great looks of watercolor painting.

Now it is to be seen as to how Levitz deals with the plot and the story in the coming issues. Lets just hope that Levitz and company create the same magic as created by the this creative team so far.

I must confess that Jake Myler, Brian Smith and Michael Raicht have done an exemplary job with the latest edition of “Finding Nemo”. It also makes me wonder if Pixer now whishes that they had thought about this as a sequel first.

Losing Dory is story of Nemo, Marlin and company trying to locate Dory, who suddenly disappears during a field-trip in one of the nearby park. However, the mission to find Dory isn’t easy as they face numerous problems and have their own troubles to deal with. On the other hand Dory has been made to believe that she would perform in front of an audience and is lured into a trap by her kidnappers who want to give her away to a fish eating monster.

The original plot of a lost fish is retained but it refreshing to see that this time Nemo is not the victim but the rescuer. It is also nice to see the father daughter duo in action. This book manages to create a lot of tension as well as confusion as all the characters seem to have a mind of their own.

The art work by Jake Myler is great and all there isn’t much between the characters you saw in the movie and ones in the book. Jake stands out with his drawings of the silly looking Dory, it suits perfectly with the character.

Overall, a very good read as it maintains the chaotic adventure just like its predecessors and a very well etched story line to compliment the terrific artwork.

The best thing about the Amazing Spider Man series is the diversity and quality the artists have managed to create and sustain over nine months. It has been an artistic extravaganza so far. Although the plots seem to lack luster compared to the art, the pure quality of art makes this series a great read. Some parts of the issue have been delightful and have even managed to create some euphoria around the Amazing Spider Man, which rarely does anything in terms of narrative.

This latest issue, Grim Hunt arc, is definitely a great book and scores heavily in terms of story and needless to say the art is near perfect. The story line is very powerful and clearly is the best of the lot so far. You do get the feeling that the series was slowly building towards this and it is an absolutely brilliant plot.

Spider Man is badly beaten down through out the series, but with each passing issue the optimism grows. It has been a beautiful mix of fight, joy and parts of Peter’s life. After reading this issue you do get a sense of disappointment and future looks drab. But you also feel that it has been created in this way and there is hope in tragedy.

All in all a fantastic book that manages to sway in different directions in terms of emotions and also a very strong story line that will keep the reader glued to it. The artistic brilliance only adds to an already wonderful book.

This issue of the “Dark Wolverine” may appear similar to “Siege” and “Wolverine Origin” to some readers. However, as they carry on with this issue, they would realize that it is far more interesting than what its frequently used title may suggest. Romulus plays the role of a villain in this Marvel adventure and seems very spotty.

Way and Liu, though manage to bring the best out of his character as they put an interesting twist on his relationship with Daken. This move gives a fair justification for Romulus’s inclination towards the Wolverine’s world who otherwise is mostly involved in a conspiracy that has led to his present situation. The issue also sees the return of Daken who had extricated himself after forming an alliance with the Dark Avengers.

The issue also throws a huge surprise by enlightening the readers with the relationship of Daken with Logan, which was least expected by anyone. The story though seems very unrealistic with the plot filled with manipulations. Logan joins hands with Daken suspecting some foul play from his son and eventually double crosses him. It really becomes difficult to understand who is manoeuvring who at some stages.

Daken seems to be at his best when he is away from the duel between Wolverine and Romulus. The final scene of the issue is also quite intriguing. Stephen Segovia has done a good job with the cover of the issue which seems very attractive. Although the story seems to be doing quite well, the real challenge would come when the book would have to strike out on its own.

The series of “X-Men” begins in a little odd manner with different girls from the new mutants changed into an unrealistic high school setting. It does take a little time for the readers to get into the thick of things. The issue highlights the unique style of the writer who after a recent overlooked stint returns with a more commercialized series.

The initial part of the issue looks more like a tale of high school politics; however the creative work of Immonen brings out the best out of the characters. This appears to be true in the case of X-23, the bad-girl who comes out strong even without her signature powers.

The characters of Psylocke and Nightcrawler justify the title of X-Men. The issue has given Pixie a new backdrop which would be evident in the upcoming issues of the series. The depiction of the past of some of the characters has been done to give an edge to the issue when you consider its continuity. The visual of the character of the Pixie is hugely responsible for the ever-growing popularity of the character compared to her peers.

Sara Pichelli makes the character look iconic with its pink hair, fairy wings and the dark eyes. She has also done a fantastic job when it comes to the artwork of the other characters as well. Immonen and Pichelli with an all female creative team have managed to keep the originality of the X:Men intact and make this Marvel publication a worthwhile purchase.

To retain the popularity and the interest of the viewers, when the action serial Buffy the Vampire Slayer was off air, Joss Whedon had used the comic books as a medium to continue the popular franchise. He has once again opted for the same technique for one of his popular blogs called Dr. Horrible Sing-Along that became quite popular last year. The funny star cast of Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion was so wonderful and entertaining that people were left begging for more.

However, the ongoing new series called the Dollhouse and production of Cabin in the Wood meant that Whedon had to turn to his brother Zack and to the world of comic books to keep going with the story of Dr. Horrible. Zack apparently has managed to create a beautiful story with a young Dr. Horrible growing up to combat his arch rival Captain Hammer.

The wonderful writing makes up for the absence of the musical number that was there to be seen in the internet shot. The story suits the comic book medium to a great extent and with its great read the lovers of Dr. Horrible can keep their fingers crossed to get this story on a regular basis. The issue would also help readers kill some time before Whedon comes up with the official action internet sequel.

Dark Horse comics have come up with an adventurous new series called the Beasts of Burden. The first issue has been written by Evan Dorkin and the art in the issue is a work of Jill Thompson. Although the issue gives an excitement to the readers, it is not a read for all ages. It becomes difficult at times to determine who the characters really are as they disappear even fast than they appear. There is no real logic behind their portrayal and the prime of example of this being the Character of the Shaggy sheepdog. The confusion of the readers at the appearance of this character is even evident in the faces of the other characters of this issue.

The story of Beasts of Burden though is very compelling and intriguing. The cats and dogs fighting supernatural forces definitely provide an added thrill to the story. However, the lack of much connection between the various characters makes the story go a little flat at times.

The artwork of Jill Thompson can really be appreciated as she has managed to do a commendable job of it. The way she has been able to give the characters emotions and attitude is really quite remarkable. Her choice of leaving the panels unbounded actually helps the pace of the story to a great extent. The story though fails to maintain its seriousness because you must consider it has dogs, cats and frogs that talk. However, it would be interesting to see the response that the issue generates among the comic book lovers.

The cover of the Justice Society of America Vol. 29 looks very promising. But besides being promising it also acquaints the readers with a new group of writers, namely Willingham and Sturges and a new artist as Jesus Merino.

In this issue, you see that new Mr. America and few new characters of Justice Society come to Brownstone and at the same something is going wrong with Obsidian. You can also find out that the lame villain Tapeworm threatens to kill some hostages if Wildcat does not come to fight with him. But all this is actually a plot to destroy the peace of Justice Society of America.

The amazing part of this issue is that the new group of writers is very successful at their task of introducing new characters. The entry of these new characters does not make you feel that the story is missing something. Each and every character has a very distinguished personality which makes the issue more readable. Therefore, you can say that Willingham and Sturges have indeed done a great work. But somewhere even though the characters are well organized, you feel the sensation of the story being forced.

The bottom line is if anyone thought of not reading this issue because the original writers Geoff Johns’ left, then it would be sad for them. One might feel disappointed about their departure but the new writers are not bad either. The new writers who are also the writers of Fables or House of Mystery, very successfully handled this issue. They have done justice to Justice Society of America Vol. 29.
