Spider-ManXMEN

With the team that created the Spider-Man/X-Men coming back together, there was absolutely no doubt that this one will be a great. Christos Gage no doubt is a great story teller but without the outstanding artwork on Mario Alberti, his books wouldn’t have had the same bite.

So, when Gage decides to give Alberti a run for his money and try to outdo his artwork, the readers are definitely all set for a classic. Such creative rivalry is a great thing in terms of outcome and as long as it is healthy, no one would complain. This book definitely has the best of both, a great story and a superbly done art work.

Hawkeye and Mockingbird 1

Jim McCann’s casting of Hawkeye and Mockingbird, just like Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in the movie Mr. & Mrs Smith, as super hero spies is extremely crucial to this latest issue. It gives that initial flurry in the beginning providing a perfect platform as we move along.

Siege Young Avengers Vol1

Although the series “Young Avengers” only had twelve issues and a special one, it is interesting to know that it also has had 19 interim mini- series. Marvel probably keeps popping out these issues to engage the readers with Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung’s creations till the time they find a new creative team.

secret warriors

The entire story of “Secret Warriors” has been written beautifully by Jonathan Hickman who has managed to present the story in a series of scenes that build up to another and leading the story towards an exciting finish. Unlike other stories that revolve around a main character, the story of “Secret Warrior” gives an account of four different organizations and many sub-groups and has new characters taking the role of the central character.

Green Lantern Vol48

This issue of Green Lantern is a departure from the action of “Blackest Night” that had been running on for months and also sees the return of the characters into main action. Geoff Johns has done a truly remarkable job in this issue and has represented the War of Lights perfectly. The issue gives a great peak inside the world of DC and is paced beautifully for the casts that can be led directly into Blackest Night #5.

Spider-Woman Vol2

The most striking thing about the second volume of Spider-Woman is Maleev’s art. It looks really amazing and is simply the highlight of this issue. The story begins with Jessica Drew finding herself in a Madripoor prison with grim and blurred surroundings. However, Maleev has a stunning job with the lights in this issue. The multi faceted artist has also taken this opportunity to show his skills with shadows and darkness in this issue imprisoning the mood and feel of the edition. The panel structures have also been given a personal feel.

Oddly enough, I thought Roy Thomas was dead. The writing and artwork for this series is excellent. I loved the 5 issues -- and thought that the cover for #3 was among the year's best comic covers. But it's unlikely this series will stand the test of time. If it
